Emco's Management Development Program

Emco offers a leadership program like no other designed to have you focus your big picture thinking and learn to become a strong business leader. At every stage of the program we take your leadership skills to that next level and prepare you with a solid foundation so that you can run your own successful Profit Centre. 

How do we do this?

The best way to learn about our business is to know everything about it. You'll become familiar with the many products, services, procedures, and people that make our company so successful today.   Along the way you will relocate at least twice within your region to give you exposure to different management styles and grow your network of contacts and resources.

Your success is our number one priority. At EMCO, we provide you with the tools you need to ensure you succeed, along with an incredible network of support for your newfound abilities and responsibilities.  

Phase 1

Your career starts at the foundation level, working in one of our warehouses.  During this 6-9 month phase, you'll learn about our operations and get familiar with the workings of the profit centre.  You'll become familiar with our products and learn the building blocks that has made our business successful.

Phase 2

In the second phase of your training, you will begin to learn the most important process of all: exceptional customer service.  You will get a taste of this through working in counter sales, order management, inventory and pricing controls, credit management, financial statements, and more. 

Phase 3

Over a period of approximately 9 months, you will be become an inside sales expert, getting a handle on every angle of sales and customer service from an order desk perspective. You will progress from helping customers with their daily needs to managing large-scale projects.

Phase 4

For the next 18 months you will get an out-of-the-office perspective of sales and customer service. We will support you in creating a sales plan specific to you that focuses on building business and developing your leadership, management and interpersonal skills. You will learn how to find new business opportunities, sell our products, negotiate contracts and build customer and vendor relationships. 

Phase 5

This final 3-month period focuses on honing those skills needed to effectively lead a profit centre. You will spend your time preparing for your final transition from trainee to leader of your Profit Centre.

At the successful completion of the program, you will be ready for your first Profit Centre assignment.  Job well done!

Throughout all of the phases, you'll work closely with your Profit Centre Manager and business mentors to learn the operations of a Profit Centre and develop your own leadership style. 

Management Trainee Projects

The Management Development Program offers many opportunities for Management Trainees to work on projects external to their day to day responsibilities. These projects can range from individual reports to small teams working together toward a common goal.
